Interesting facts about Yie Ar Kung Fu
Never released in the US, we received Karate Champ instead. However, Yie Ar Kung Fu was a commercial success in Japan and in Europe. It was a precursor to the fighting genre, which Capcom would capitalize on with Street Fighter in 1987, two years later. However, Street Fighter was a high tech game for its time, and wouldn’t see a console release until Street Fighter II. So it is noteworthy that Yie Ar Kung Fu and few other fighting games released for and ran on NES hardware, quite literally paving the way for future releases on home consoles.
