Interesting facts about StarCraft
-When the game was first announced in 1996, after the release of Warcraft II, the public response was extremely unfavorable. After being overhauled, and shown again in 1997 would it receive a more positive response.
-Regarded as on the best, important, and influential games of all time.
-One of the games that created the eSports industry, especially in South Korea.
-In response to the number of delays, a group of StarCraft fans calling themselves, “Opeartion: Can’t Wait Any Longer,” to write a series of fictional stories in which the members of CWAL would attempt to retrieve a beta version of StarCraft from Blizzard HQ. To pay homage to the group’s presence and enthusiasm, Blizzard would incorporate the group’s name as a cheat code in StarCraft: “operation cwal”.
-While BroodWar would be an official expansion released by Blizzard, there were two other expansions created by two separate third party companies. Insurrection was developed by Aztech New Media, and Retribution was developed by Stardock, who created Galactic Civilizations. While Insurrection would be met with poor response, Retribution was considered average yet challenging.
-The N64 game complete with box and manual is one of the most expensive games for the system. At the time of this writing, it is worth $155 in mint condition.
-According to How Long to Beat’s website the average play through takes about 25 hours to complete.
-According to GameRankings.com, StarCraft currently holds an overall rank of #164, #29 for the PC, and #90 for the N64.
-According to an IGN article, StarCraft sold 1,500,000 units its first year worldwide.
-Currently, about 1 game is sold per day for the N64 version.
