Interesting facts about Maniac Mansion
-According to How Long to Beat’s website the average play through takes about 2.5 hours to complete.
-According to GameRankings.com, Maniac Mansion holds a score of 83.33%.
-Currently, about 8 games are sold per week on the NES.
-Due to Nintendo believing it was too inappropriate for children, the developers had to alter the game heavily to release the game on the NES.
-It standardized “point and click” interfaces for the genre, which would be used for dozens of games to come.
-During development, the team was relocated to Skywalker Ranch, where they worked in the Main House. Much of this house was reproduced as parts of the mansion in-game.
-This would be the first game that Tim Schafer would be credited in, he was a play tester for the NES version of the game.
-There is a series of 250,000 units of this game for the NES that includes the ability to microwave a hamster, in retaliation to censorship from Nintendo, and to prove a point, the developers had purposely kept that feature in the game. Later, Nintendo discovered the feature, and ordered that it be removed before more games were produced.
